Arrival in Bhutan, Paro to Thimphu (70 KM's)(70 minutes)

Beautiful Bhutan welcomes you !!! After arrival, you will be greeted by your tour guide who will be your tour guide during your entire trip in Bhutan and then will be driven through a scenic drive towards Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.

SIGHTSEEING : Buddha Dordenma statue

Great Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Great Buddha Dordenma itself, will be made of bronze and gilded in gold. The Great Buddha Dordenma is sited amidst the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, the palace of Sherab Wangchuck, the thirteenth Desi Druk, overlooking the southern approach to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.

SIGHTSEEING : Clock Tower Square, Thimphu

Clock Tower Square has a tower with four clock faces located in Thimphu, capital of Bhutan. It is a famously known landmark in Thimphu. There are many shops, hotels and restaurants surrounding the square. The Clock-tower has a typical Bhutanese architectural outlook with rich Bhutanese carvings and paintings. There are traditional hand crafted dragon with golden painting on all the four faces of the tower which symbolizes the county as an independent dragon kingdom. The tower has beautiful paintings and carvings of flowers which add more magnificence to the tower. The shops, restaurants and hotels in the clock tower square have a blend of fine traditional and modern architectural Bhutanese design with multi-coloured wood frontages, small arched windows, and sloping roofs. The buildings around the square are all small three storied structures

SIGHTSEEING : Tashichho Dzong

Tashichhoedzong is a Buddhist monastery and fortress on the northern edge of the city of Thimphu in Bhutan, on the western bank of the Wang Chu. It has traditionally been the seat of the Druk Desi (or "Dharma Raja"), the head of Bhutan's civil government, an office which has been combined with the kingship since the creation of the monarchy in 1907, and summer capital of the country.

SIGHTSEEING : Changangkha lhakhang

It is an early medieval Buddhist temple in the capital city Thimphu. The temple is situated on a ridge overlooking the city, near Mohitang on the outskirts of Thimphu. The temple is the oldest temple in Thimphu and was constructed by Lama Phajo Drukgom Zhigpo in the 12 century AD.

SIGHTSEEING : National institute of zorig chusum

The National Institute of Zorig Chusum is the centre for Bhutanese Art education which provides 4-6 years of training in Bhutan's 13 traditional arts. Students specialize in painting (furniture, thangkas – painted religious pictures, usually on canvas), woodcarving (masks, statues, bowls), embroidery (hangings, boots, clothes) or statue-making (clay). The craft demonstrations are a photographers' dream and it's hard not to be impressed with the skill and discipline of the young students. The showroom sells good-value pieces made by students.

SIGHTSEEING : Folk Heritage Museum Thimphu

The Folk Heritage Museum or Phelchey Toenkhyim is a museum in Thimphu, Thimphu District, Bhutan. The museum is housed in a 3-story 19th century traditional rammed mud and timber house aged more than 150 years. It includes paddy, wheat and millet fields, watermill, kitchen gardens, hot stone bath etc. The ground floor resembles barn, the upper floor resembles safe store and the top most floor resembles living and dining area. The museums displays various materials related to the Bhutanese culture and way of life. Exhibitions includes rural households artifacts, equipment, objects and tools.

SIGHTSEEING : Bhutan Post Office Headquarters

Visiting the Bhutan Post in Thimphu is the opportunity to have your photo taken and printed on a Bhutanese stamp. For about $10, you get 6 stamps which you can use to mail your postcards from Bhutan to anywhere in the world. Lots of fun!

SIGHTSEEING : Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan

The Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan was founded to preserve and promote the living art of weaving which is an important part of the culture and tradition of Bhutan. Under the patronage of Her Majesty Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck, it is a non-government, non-profit organization established as an educational center for the training of individuals in traditional Bhutanese weaving.

SIGHTSEEING : Authentic Bhutanese Crafts Bazaar

There are about 100 shops and all the shopkeepers are women. The shops were allotted to these womenfolk on the condition that they would only sell products which were produced in Bhutan and not import products from other countries. The ladies are helpful, courteous and very obliging while you browse through their wares. If you start from one end, it will definitely take you a little more than an hour to window-shop till the end of the road.

SIGHTSEEING : Memorial Chorten, Chhoten Lam, Thimphu, Bhutan

The Memorial Stupa, Thimphu, also known as the Thimphu Chorten, is a stupa (Dzongkha chöten, cheten) in Thimphu, Bhutan, located on Doeboom Lam in the southern-central part of the city near the main roundabout and Indian military hospital. The stupa, built in 1974 to honor the third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (1928–1972), is a prominent landmark in the city with its golden spires and bells. In 2008, it underwent extensive renovation. It is popularly known as "the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan". It was consecrated by Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje.

Day 3

Thimphu - Paro via Dochula Pass

Post breakfast, you will be driven towards Dochula pass which is a half day excursion. On a sunny day, you can get stunning views of the Himalayan ranges. Later after visiting Dochula Pass, you will be driven towards Paro, and there if time permits - you will be visiting more places of interests. You can choose to walk around in the market on your own.

SIGHTSEEING : Dochula Pass

The Dochula Pass is a mountain pass in the snow covered Himalayas within Bhutan on the road from Thimpu to Punakha where 108 memorial chortens or stupas known as "Druk Wangyal Chortens" have been built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother. Apart from the chortens there is a monastery called the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple), built in honour of the fourth Druk Gyalpo (head of the state of Bhutan), Jigme Singye Wangchuck; the open grounds in its front yard is a venue for the annual Dochula Druk Wangyel Festival. The pass with 108 memorial chortens is adjacent to the country's first Royal Botanical Park.

SIGHTSEEING : Royal Botanical Park, Lampelri

The Royal Botanical Park, Lampelri is the first botanical park in Bhutan and forms the backdrop of the Dochula Pass. The park forms a biological corridor of 47 square miles (120 kms) between the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park and the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Park and has a popular botanical garden within it which is spread over an area of 125 acres. This is planted with 46 species of rhododendron of which 18 species are native to the park while the other 26 species are brought from other regions of Bhutan and planted here.

Paro

Post breakfast, you will go for an amazing hike up-to Tiger Nest. Post that you may choose to visit another place of great Bhutanese heritage & local market(if time permits). In case you do not want to challenge your fitness then you will have an option of taking day tour of Paro city with many sight seeings.

ACTIVITY : Paro Taktsang Hike

Paro Taktsang, is a prominent Himalayan Buddhist sacred site and the temple complex is located in the cliffside of the upper Paro valley in Bhutan. A temple complex was first built in 1692, around the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days and three hours in the 8th century. Padmasambhava is credited with introducing Buddhism to Bhutan and is the tutelary deity of the country. Today, Paro Taktsang is the best known of the thirteen taktsang or "tiger lair" caves in which he meditated. The temple devoted to Padmasambhava (also known as Gu-ru mTshan-brgyad Lhakhang, "the Temple of the Guru with Eight Names") is an elegant structure built around the cave in 1692 by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye; and has become the cultural icon of Bhutan. A popular festival, known as the Tsechu, held in honor of Padmasambhava, is celebrated in the Paro valley sometime during March or April

SIGHTSEEING : Kyichu Lhakhang

It is a short drive from Paro, and is one of the Bhutan's oldest and most beautiful monastery. It is popularly believed to have been built in 659 by King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet, to pin down the left foot of a giant ogress who was thwarting the establishment of Buddhism into Tibet. Additional buildings and a golden roof were constructed in 1839 by the penlop (governor) of Paro and the 25th Je Khenpo. Elderly pilgrims constantly walk around the temple spinning its many prayer wheels.

SIGHTSEEING : Drukchoeding

Also known as Tshongdoe Naktshang, the quiet and peaceful Druk Choeding is the town temple. It was built in 1525 by Ngawang Chhogyel (1465–1540), one of the prince-abbots of Ralung in Tibet and an ancestor of the Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Look for his mural to the right of the inner entrance. The main statue is of a seated Jampa (future Buddha). Also present is the local protector Gyenyen, surrounded by a fearsome collection of old Bhutanese shields and weapons.

SIGHTSEEING : Dumtse lhakang

Jangtsa Dumgtseg Lhakhang [zlum brtshegs lha khang] is a Buddhist temple in western Bhutan. The temple is notable as it is in the form of a chorten, very rare in Bhutan. It is located on the edge of a hill between the Paro valley and the Dopchari valley, across the bridge from Paro.[1][2] The Buddhist iconography depicted in the Chorten is considered a unique repository of the Drukpa Kagyu school.

Day 5

Paro - Chelela Pass (Day excursion) (45 kms) (1 hr 30 mins)

Post breakfast, you will be undertaking a scenic drive towards Chelela Pass to enjoy the beauty of the place and spend some time just soaking in nature. Its a must visit place for tourists from all over the world. Later if time permits you will visit few places in Paro city.

SIGHTSEEING : Chele-La Pass

Highest road point in Bhutan (3,980m but probably lower). Very excellent panoramic view is expected early in the morning, especially winter to early spring. Also, a good spot for bird and flower watching.

SIGHTSEEING : Rimpung Dzong

Rinpung Dzong is a large dzong - Buddhist monastery and fortress - of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school in Paro District, Bhutan. It houses the district Monastic Body and government administrative offices of Paro Dzongkhag. It is listed as a tentative site in Bhutan's Tentative List for UNESCO inclusion.

SIGHTSEEING : Ta Dzong( National Museum )

National Museum of Bhutan is a cultural museum in the town of Paro in western Bhutan. Established in 1968, in the renovated ancient Ta-dzong building, above Rinpung Dzong under the command of His Majesty, the King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third hereditary Monarch of Bhutan. The necessary infrastructure was created to house some of the finest specimens of Bhutanese art, including masterpieces of bronze statues and paintings. Suitable galleries were constructed to house the extensive collections. Works of art were elegantly displayed on scientific lines. Today the National Museum has in its possession over 3,000 works of Bhutanese art, covering more than 1,500 years of Bhutan's cultural heritage. Its rich holdings of various creative traditions and disciplines, represent a remarkable blend of the past with the present and is a major attraction for local and foreign visitors.

In case of non availability of these a similar category vehicle will be provided (Note: AC is normally not required in Bhutan. AC will work only in the plains and will be switched-off during hill drives, because if you use AC in hills then the vehicle will stop functioning. Normal vehicle usage timing is from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.)

  • Holiday Packages are valid for Indian Nationals Only.
  • Prices mentioned for per person are on twin sharing basis (2 persons sharing one room).
  • Not more than 3 adults are allowed in one room.
  • The third occupant of the room shall be provided a mattress/roll away or an extra bed.
  • The price of the Holiday Services does not include –

1. Expenses of personal nature, such as laundry, telephone calls, room service, alcoholic beverages, mini bar charges, tips, portage, camera fees etc.
2. Any meals and services not specifically mentioned in the inclusions

  • Airline seats and hotel rooms are subject to availability at the time of booking.
  • In case of unavailability in the mentioned hotels, arrangement for an alternate accommodation will be made in a hotel of similar quality & standard.
  • Room heaters in hotel rooms will be provided at no extra cost.
  • Transportation shall be provided as per the itinerary and will not be at disposal unless specified.
  • Drivers will switch off AC during hill drives.
  • TravelKaro.com reserves the right to modify the itinerary at any point, due to reasons including but not limited to: Force Majeure events, strikes, fairs, festivals, weather conditions, traffic problems, overbooking of hotels / flights, cancellation / re-routing of flights, closure of / entry restrictions at a place of visit, etc. While we will indeed do our best to make suitable alternate arrangements, We would not be held liable for any refunds/compensation claims arising out of this.

  • To travel to Punakha you need to obtain permit by submitting clear scanned copies of the voter ID card and Passport for adults and birth certificate for kids. You also need to carry the original of these documents while travelling to Bhutan.

Booking Term

  • Validity of flight ticket pricing mentioned in the proposal will be only for 24 hours.
  • Package can only be confirmed by making minimum 10% amount of the invoice value, The travel company reserves the right to change the percentage as and when needed. Any verbal or mail confirmation without making the minimum amount of invoice will not hold valid.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellation stage: 31 or more days prior to departure : 85% of package cost will be refunded on cancellation 31 days or more before departure.
  • Cancellation stage: 11 to 20 days before departure : 50% of the package cost will be refunded on cancellation between 11 to 20 days before departure.
  • Cancellation stage: 10 days or less before departure : 100% of the package cost will be charged as penalty on cancellation 10 days before departure

The above-mentioned cancellation charges are applicable only against the main Tour and optional tours published by the Company. If the Client has booked any other services such as air / train tickets or any third party product, then the Company is liable to recover cancellation charges as per cancellation terms of respective airline / railways or the cancellation terms of respective third party. The Company is also liable to recover its service charges against booking and cancelling such services for the Client.
